G. BENJAMIN WAMPLER, MD, FACS
Benjamin Wampler, MD, FACS is a board-certified general surgeon. He has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery, colorectal surgery, breast surgery and hernia repair.
Dr. Wampler has lived in the area his entire life. His father, Dr. Wampler Senior, started the practice in 1963. He completed college at Bridgewater College and then went to medical school in Richmond, VA at the Medical College of Virginia. He completed his training in general surgery at West Virginia University before coming back home to join his fathers’ group. Dr. Wampler has been voted a “top doctor” numerous times by both the Washingtonian Magazine as well as Northern Virginia Top Doctors. He has helped to build a thriving general surgery practice in the Northern Virginia region.
Dr. Wampler enjoys playing many sports including golf, skiing, softball, and volleyball. He is very involved with his family. He has a loving wife who specializes in childhood education and 4 children. They enjoy great times together, including hiking and traveling.
CYNTHIA DOUGHERTY, MD
Cynthia Dougherty, MD is a board-certified general surgeon, with special interest in breast surgery, laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, hernias, lipomas, skin cancer, cysts, and peritoneal dialysis access.
Dr. Dougherty earned a BA in microbiology and a BA in zoology from Miami University. In addition, she holds a Medical Technologist certification from University of Cincinnati. She attended Medical School and completed her general surgery residency training at the Medical College of Ohio.
Dr. Dougherty was born and raised in Ohio, but as a life-long horse lover, a move to Virginia horse country was easy. She enjoys fox hunting and horseback riding whenever she has time. Dr. Dougherty aslo enjoy antiquing, auctioning, running the church thrift shop, and spending time with her husband and two children.
JOSEPH A. BROWN, MD, FACS
Joseph Brown MD, FACS is a board-certified general surgeon with an interest in breast surgery, general surgery, and wound care. He holds certifications in wound care and hyperbaric medicine.
Dr. Brown grew up in Southwestern Virginia and graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked in the coal industry as a summer intern and ultimately for several years with engineering firms in Virginia prior to attending medical school at the Medical College of Virginia. He completed surgery residency at the Carilion Hospital System in Roanoke Virginia.
He enjoys the outdoors, walking his dog, and trips to Montana in the summers with his wife and two children. He can be found in Blacksburg on Saturdays cheering for the Virginia Tech Hokies during football season.
ELIZABETH ALEXANDRA ZUBOWICZ, MD, FACS, FASMBS
E. Alexandra Zubowicz, MD, FACS, FASMBS is a board-certified general surgeon. She specializes in bariatric surgery and hernia surgery. She performs both open as well as minimally invasive surgery, with a focus on robotic surgery and its advancement in the realm of general surgery.
Dr. Zubowicz is an active member of multiple professional societies, including the American College of Surgeons, Americas Hernia Society, and she is a fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) . She has presented at numerous regional and national conferences and has been published in multiple peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Zubowicz is originally from Atlanta, Georgia. She received her undergraduate degree from Boston College and her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. She completed her residency training in general surgery at the Medstar-Georgetown General Surgery Program in Washington, DC.
She has an interest in medical mission work and has been on several medical mission trips, in both Ecuador and in the Philippines. Her husband is active duty with the United States Army, and they have one daughter Gabrielle.
